The Day We Unite

Today!

That's the tagline of Tokyo Marathon which also serves as a trial race for Japanese male team (no female?) selection for the 14th IAAF World Championships in athletics.

This year, Tokyo Marathon starts with being one of 6 World Marathon Majors series. For many Malaysians who are running there today (still running, as I'm typing this I think); this is the nearest Marathon for them to get to run in one of the Marathon major races.
What a great way to experience the city's sight and sound, right? Runners get to pass through a lot of interesting sights in Tokyo, not to mention popular tourists spots.

updates can be read here.

Incidentally, today is also the day of Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon. On Chap Goh Mei! The last day of Chinese New Year!

And talking about marathon runners, Kawauchi Yuki clips in his winning marathon in Beppu-Oita Marathon and other clips about his training and life are circulating in FB amongst KL runners as an inspiration for us who loves to run and needs to juggle between training and our life.

But dang, Nakamato Kentaro is so cute. LOL

  1. It's a cold, windy day in Tokyo. Cold might not be a problem, but I wouldn't want to run into such a cold head wind.

They're running (ran?) just a few blocks from here, but I'm still huddling at home, trying to adjust to Tokyo's temperatures.

Japan will send a female team when stiletto running becomes an Olympic event. >:)

I'd never heard of Nakamato Kentaro before, but dang, yes, you're right! :)

    1. At 1:41pm, there should be runners still pounding the road. Cut-off tome for Tokyo Marathon is generous at 7hours so even slow poke like mw can enter this marathon. It finishes at 4pm, if I'm not mistaken. :-)

Gotten updates from fellow Malaysian running (and already finished) about how cold it is now in Tokyo.

can't say I pity you though. No matter how cold it is, you are IN Japan. *envy*

      ;-)

  2. Yeah, very cold and windy through-out Japan today. We had some light snow here in Gifu. Definitely would be a great way to see the city and soak up some of the sights.

    1. Still snow? Brrrr...

Running a marathon (or even shorter distances) is a great way to see a place.

I guess that's why marathon running packages are a hit in Japan. ^_~

    1. It was indeed a cold day and many runners lamented about the cold weather but it certainly didn't dampen anyone's spirit!

Yes! One day I hope to be there too! :)

  5. The runners can do both things at the same time. Complete the marathon and sightseeing. What a wonderful event. :D

    1. Yup! :)

Plenty of marathons offer scenic route which is a nice, novel way to go sightseeing.

      I'm hoping to do a running/sightseeing marathon myself too, in 2014! ^^
